Privacy policy
Last updated: 30 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data Telcopolis, the game at www.telcopolis.com, keeps about its players, why, for how long, who helps us process it, and the rights you have over it.
Who is responsible
Telcopolis is published by its developer, Christophe Eyquem, an individual (sole proprietor), Costa del Este, Panama City, Panama, who is responsible for your data (the data controller). You can reach us at contact@telcopolis.com.
1. What we keep
Your account
- Your email address, to sign you in and to write to you about your account.
- If you sign in with Google, Google's identifier for your account and your email address. We never see your Google password, and we don't keep your name or picture.
- Your age group (13 to 15, or 16 and older) and the day you gave it, to apply the rules for younger players. We don't ask for your date of birth.
- When your account was made, when you last played, how you signed in, and the days you played with how long: the game counts the minutes while you play.
- The eras you own, and how you got each one (bought, given, or with a gift code, which we keep).
- Your purchases: for each one, Paddle's transaction number, what you bought, the amount and currency, any discount, the date, and whether it was refunded. The payment itself (your name, card, billing address and country, for taxes) is handled by Paddle, which sells to you as merchant of record under its own privacy policy: we never see your card. When you buy, we give Paddle your account's email, so its checkout starts with it.
Invitations
While Telcopolis is in private testing, new accounts need an invitation. We keep the email addresses we invite, when, and when we emailed the invitation. If you ask for an invitation, we keep your email address (proven by a sign-in link or Google), your age group and the date you asked, until we invite you, a year at most; if you tell us you are under 13, we keep nothing.
Signing in
- A sign-in link: the email it was sent to, the internet address (IP) it was asked from and the time, to send it and to limit abuse. Deleted after a day.
- A session: a random code kept in your browser and, in a protected (hashed) form, on our server, with your browser's type and when it was made and last used. It ends when you sign out, or after 90 days without use.
Your games
Your saved games (the map, the orders you gave and their dates), your settings and the badges you earned are kept in your browser's storage, on your device. When you save a game while signed in, and once a game year with the autosave, that save is also kept on our server with the date and time it was made, every earlier save of the slot too, so that you can play it on another device or go back to an earlier one.
The leaderboards
When you finish an era in a game while signed in, the game sends that game's save to our server, which replays it to check the result and keeps the save with it, its date and time and the result. If you are 16 or older, the nickname you choose and your best result on each board (its share of the reference operator's, the value created, the map's size and the country's name) are shown on the public leaderboards, in the game and at telcopolis.com/leaderboard, until you hide them on your account page. Players aged 13 to 15 show under a drawn name, and only if they choose to. Your email never appears there. We keep when you saw each checked result in the game; one checked after you left the game is emailed to you, unless you turn these emails off on your account page.
Advice after a lost game
When a game ends in a game over while you are signed in and 16 or older, the game sends our server why it was lost: the reason, the month things turned and up to three findings with their figures (such as cash, investment, sites or coverage), with the map's size, its number and the country's name, and the game as it ended (the orders you gave and their dates, as in a saved game), which we use to work out what would have helped and to improve this advice. A day later, unless you have played on (a new game, a game loaded or the shareholders' rescue), we email you this advice with a link to play the same country again, at most once a week. You can turn these emails off on your account page, linked from each email; nothing is kept then. Nothing is kept for players aged 13 to 15.
Your device and where you play from
Each time you start the game signed in, if you are 16 or older, we record:
- Your IP address and the approximate place it points to: the country, the city and that city's coordinates, never your precise location. We look it up in DB-IP's database, which we keep on our own server: your IP address is not sent to anyone for this.
- Your device's configuration: its kind (phone, tablet or computer), operating system and browser; the screen's size and pixel density and the window's size; the graphics processor and whether WebGL and WebGPU are supported; the number of processor cores and the memory the browser reports; whether the screen is a touch screen; your language and time zone; whether you prefer a light or dark theme and reduced motion; the type of connection and whether data saving is on.
We use it to make the game run well on the devices and screens most players use, to know where our players are, and to keep accounts secure. Nothing of this is recorded for players aged 13 to 15.
Server logs
Like any website, our server records each request it receives: the IP address, the time, the address asked for and your browser's type. We use these logs to keep the game running and secure; they are kept in rotating files of limited size, the oldest entries overwritten as new ones come.
2. Cookies and browser storage
The game keeps your saves, settings, session and cookie choice in your browser's local storage, and the content of the eras you own in its cache for offline play, which stay on your device; you can clear them in your browser's settings (the games saved there would be lost).
Google Analytics, only if you accept. When you first visit, we ask whether we may use Google Analytics to
count visits and see how the game is played: the pages you open and how long you stay, the site or campaign that brought
you, and a few moments of the game (signing up or in and how, starting a game with its map size and region, finishing the
tutorial, the end of an era with your rank and how your result compares with the reference operator's, in broad bands,
and a game over with its reason). Google Analytics then sets two cookies, _ga and
_ga_LVCSH5R7YM, kept 13 months, and receives your IP address, which it does not store, and your browser's
type, language and screen size. We turned off Google's advertising features and Google signals: this data is not used for
advertising or linked to your Google account. The page address Google receives never includes a sign-in link.
If you decline, Google's script is not loaded and nothing is sent to Google. Your choice is kept 13 months, then we ask again; you can change it at any time from Cookie settings, at the bottom of each page of this website or in the game's Settings, and declining deletes Google Analytics' cookies. We never use Google Analytics for a player aged 13 to 15: once such a player signs in, it is turned off in that browser and its cookies are deleted.
If you sign in with Google, Google's sign-in window may use Google's own cookies, under Google's privacy policy.
3. Why we use it
- To provide the game and your account: this is our agreement with you (our terms).
- To keep the game secure and prevent abuse, for example by limiting sign-in emails: our legitimate interest.
- To measure visits and how the game is played with Google Analytics: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- To give you the eras you buy and keep a record of the purchases: our agreement with you, and our accounting obligations.
- To improve the game from how it is played, looking at players together, never one by one: our legitimate interest.
- To make the game work well on the devices our players use most, counting devices, screens and places together: our legitimate interest.
- To email you advice after a lost game, which you can turn off: our legitimate interest in helping you learn the game.
- To answer you when you write to us.
We email you only to sign you in, to invite you when you were invited or asked to be, to tell you a result checked for the leaderboards or give you advice after a lost game (both of which you can turn off), or about your account: no newsletters or advertising unless you ask for them. We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't use it for advertising.
4. Who processes it for us
- OVHcloud (OVH SAS, France): our servers, in France, and the sending of our emails.
- Paddle (Paddle.com Market Limited, United Kingdom): sells the eras to you as merchant of record; it is responsible for the payment data it collects, and tells us only your purchase (above).
- Google (Google Ireland Limited): Google Analytics, if you accept it, and Sign in with Google, if you use it. What Google does with your data falls under Google's privacy policy.
The approximate place of an IP address comes from DB-IP's free database, which we download and keep on our server: IP Geolocation by DB-IP. We may also disclose data when the law requires it.
5. Where it is kept
On our servers in France, in the European Union. Google may process data elsewhere, notably in the United States, under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses; Paddle, in the United Kingdom, under its own safeguards.
6. How long we keep it
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Your account and your saves online | As long as you keep the account. An account unused for 3 years is deleted with its saves, after a warning email a month before. |
| Your nickname and your leaderboard results | As long as you keep the account; they leave the public boards as soon as you hide them, and are deleted with the account |
| A lost game's advice | 30 days |
| Sign-in links and sign-up steps | One day |
| A request for an invitation | Until you are invited, a year at most |
| An invitation | As long as the account made with it; until we withdraw it otherwise |
| Sessions | Until you sign out, or 90 days after their last use |
| Your device and where you played from, at each game start | 12 months |
| The days you played and how long | As long as you keep the account |
| Google Analytics | Its cookies 13 months in your browser; its data 14 months at Google, then deleted |
| Your cookie choice | 13 months in your browser, then we ask again |
| Your purchases | As long as the account; after it is deleted, kept without your identity for our accounts |
| Backups | Data deleted from the game stays only in our encrypted backups, at most 12 months |
7. Younger players
Telcopolis is for players 13 and older. If you tell us you are under 13, we make no account and keep nothing of the email you gave. For players aged 13 to 15 we record neither their device nor where they play from, we never use Google Analytics, and they appear on the public leaderboards only under a drawn name, and only if they choose to.
8. Your rights
On your account page you can download everything we keep about you, and delete your account with its saves at once. You can also ask us to show you your data, correct it, stop using it for a purpose, or withdraw a consent you gave (for Google Analytics, from Cookie settings at any time): write to contact@telcopolis.com from your account's email address; we answer within a month. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
9. How we protect it
The game is served over HTTPS only; there are no passwords to steal; session codes are kept hashed; our backups are encrypted; only the publisher can reach the servers and the game's admin panel, where they can see an account, its saves and its game starts, to answer players and stop abuse. No system is completely secure, but we work to keep yours safe.
10. Changes
When this policy changes, we update this page and its date; we tell you in the game or by email about significant changes.
